It wasn’t the fantasy film you might expect from the advertisements; it was something much better. A film about friendship, dreams and dealing with loss. A must-see for anyone with kids six or older.

Highly overrated. Should never be called a fantasy film; this is a violent and gory monster horror movie. I’m sure that if you like the horror genre, you’ll love this one — but I was completely mislead by reviews and marketing to think that this was going to be an “epic fantasy.” [...]
This was great, but I’m still waiting for someone to make it set in the same time period as the original book. If you’re going to modernize the story, do it on the cheap with camcorders like The Blair Witch Project.
