Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Movie Review, May 2008

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (movie review) / 51qtKmtIPgL. SL160 A fun summer popcorn flick made by old men reliving their youth, and Ford’s best work in over a decade. The Biblical artifacts were the best MacGuffins in the previous films, and I think it’s clear why Ford and Spielberg resisted filming this story by Lucas for almost 20 years. The plot is a bit of a jumble due to so many rewrites over that time, but there are some great action set pieces to keep it entertaining nonetheless.

Watched this last night.

Have to admit, I went in with REALLY low expectations, based on all the negative fanboy reviews over the last few months, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I loved it. Right up there with 1 and 3, actually.
Ford has obviously aged, and to see him in the Indy garb was a geeky delight.
Excellent seeing Marion Ravenwood again, and Cate Blanchett is a friggin chameleon; she can play damn near anything or anybody. She was a lot of fun as the villain.

I even was impressed with Shia LeBeauf. I’m not a fan of his, but his character grew on me.

The heavy use of CGI not normally seen in the Indy flicks was a bit distracting, but overall, it worked.

I loved this movie.

A great sequel for the family, sure to please anyone who enjoyed the first film. It diverges from the book a bit more, but in good ways: to add more action and excitement. I loved the dwarves and the griffons the most, and didn’t mind all the homages to the Lord of [...]

I quite enjoyed this return to the events of the fourth Star Trek film: it’s a sort of sequel which takes the opportunity to flesh out the purpose and meaning of the mysterious probe. It might not be the novel Bonanno wrote (see her web site), but it was a fun diversion nonetheless.
