Worms 2: Armageddon

Game Review, July 2009

Worms 2: Armageddon (game review) / 41PuLNrie9L. SL160 The lastest Worms game was released this week on Xbox Live; I’m still a sucker for this game, even though I’ve been playing it since the first release on Amiga way back in 1994… it never really seems to get old to me. Although they’ve called it Worms 2: Armageddon, it shouldn’t be confused with either Worms 2 nor Worms: Armageddon, which were  released a decade ago.

Really, this is the game that should have been released on Xbox Live in the first place — the first Xbox 360 Worms game was just too stripped down and simplified; I don’t think I had ever played a Worms game with less weaponry, backgrounds, and soundbanks. Worms 2: Armageddon adds back some of the classics, such as the Holy Hand Grenade and Super Sheep, while keeping the options simplified to ensure more fair on-line competition. If you want to relive the glory days of 90s gaming, or are looking for a fun game for the whole family that isn’t about twitchy reflexes, this game is easy to recommend at just 800 Microsoft points.

Back in the day, Team 17 was exciting and innovative, but how long can they go on just remaking and releasing Worms 2? Hopefully the rumours about an upcoming Xbox 360 version of Alien Breed are true…

Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Ghostbusters hit the screens when I was a pre-teen, and instantly became one of my all-time favourite films. Now, when I first heard about Ghostbusters: The Video Game, I wasn’t sure what to think — movie-related games are rarely very good. But when it was said that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis would be penning [...]

Slumdog Millionaire

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in Slumdog Millionaire. It’s not that it’s a bad film, it’s just that it didn’t live up to the hype of a whopping eight Academy Awards. I suppose I should be happy to see that the American Academy would appreciate a film like this, but man, [...]
