On the Edge: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore

Book Review, January 2008

On the Edge: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore (book review) / 41gNh6dnjkL. SL160 This history of Commodore is so much more fascinating than you might think; the personalities, clashes, and little-known facts kept me turning the pages. As a Commodore fan, I always wondered, “what went wrong?” — and this book answers that, revealing the internal politics and decision making of one of the true pioneers of personal computing. The actual writing and organization of the book leaves a lot to be desired (hence 4 stars and not 5), but thankfully the amazing story mainly tells itself through the interviews with former Commodore employees.

I admit I did enjoy puzzling over the smattering of existential philosophy, however, and that brought it closer [...]

Like all of Gibson’s films, I really enjoyed this. It is actually a far simpler story than I expected, keeping the focus on the personal trials of Jaguar Paw — it seems misleading when people describe this film as an “epic.” A very exciting, yet moving, film.
