I enjoyed the subtleties of the original short story, but the film is far too heavy-handed. Darabont forgets that mist is scarier when you can’t see what’s concealed within it.

Like all of Gibson’s films, I really enjoyed this. It is actually a far simpler story than I expected, keeping the focus on the personal trials of Jaguar Paw — it seems misleading when people describe this film as an “epic.” A very exciting, yet moving, film.

This was great, but I’m still waiting for someone to make it set in the same time period as the original book. If you’re going to modernize the story, do it on the cheap with camcorders like The Blair Witch Project.

Pan’s Labyrinth

Highly overrated. Should never be called a fantasy film; this is a violent and gory monster horror movie. I’m sure that if you like the horror genre, you’ll love this one — but I was completely mislead by reviews and marketing to think that this was going to be an “epic fantasy.” It’s the furthest thing from epic. (They have the gall to compare this to Lord of the Rings? Not a chance.)

Jurassic Park

This was the first and only movie I saw multiple times in the theatre (I think five?). The special effects were absolutely mind-blowing at the time. Loved the soundtrack, too.
